Master of Arts in Theology (M.A.)
General Description and Program Goals
Graduate programs at WMU equip students to combine academic discipline with Christian formation and discipleship. Students are expected to demonstrate they have acquired knowledge on a graduate level of competency. The programs are designed to integrate knowledge of biblical and theological disciplines with practical skills to help broaden the student¡¯s Christian worldview.
The Master of Arts in Theology degree is a two year program designed both for the persons who wish to work in church staff positions, lay ministry, or to pursue further academic theological study. The degree program requires 64 semester hours. As many as 32 semester hours of graduate work may be transferred from another institution.

Graduation Requirements
To graduate from the Master of Art¡¯s program each student is required to have completed a minimum of 64 semester hours beyond the Bachelor¡¯s degree. The hours can be a combination of transfer credit and course work with 2.5 GPA and above. At least 32 hours must be completed at World Mission University. Students must demonstrate competence in at least seven of ten ministry skills listed on the Ministry Skills Assessment Form (see Student Ministry Handbook) and pass the Bible Comprehensive Examination. To pass the Bible Comprehensive Examination, the student must correctly answer a minimum of 100 of the 150 questions (75 from the Old Testament and 75 from the New Testament). To satisfy the graduation requirements, the student will secure the request form to take the examination and the request shall be submitted 10 days prior to the date of the examination. The examination shall be taken at any regularly scheduled testing period. The student will be allowed to retake the examination as often as needed.
To complete the program, a thesis will be submitted and approved by the graduation committee. The student should register for the course titled PT604 Thesis during the final year of the program and submit an outline of the thesis for faculty approval. The school will assign an academic supervisor according to the them of the thesis. The length of the thesis will be approximately 50 pages double-spaced. The thesis will meet the writing standards of WMU.
Course Titles and Level
All courses at the Master degree level are numbered 500 - 699. Course descriptions are provided in the school's catalog. Those courses marked by an asterisk (*) refer to courses that can be waived by proficiency examinations or advanced standing.
Degree Requirements: 64 Hours
The M.A. in Theology requires 64 semester hours of course work comprised of 12 semester hours of biblical studies, 21 semester hours of theological/historical studies, 18 semester hours of practices of ministry studies, 4 semester hours of field education, and 9 semester hours of electives.
